AUSTRALIA’S POPULATION
OVER. SIX MILLIONS. Sydney, January 3. An official report shows the population of the Commonwealth at 30th September last totalled 6,076,•132, of whom 3,104,821 are males and 2,97.1,011 females. In Tasmania and Victoria females predominated. The increase for the year was 118,512. The population of New South Wales increased by 49,575, that of Victoria by 26,571, Queensland by 21,860, and South Australia’s by 15,807. In other States there were small increases. Since the 1921 Census Australia’s population has increased by 640,698, of which number 70 per cent, is excess of births over deaths and 30 per cent, excess of arrivals over departures. The increase represents an average rate of slight ly above 2 per cent, per annum.
