THE HEMP INDUSTRY
Li a review of the condition of agriculture in the Dominion during the past year, a statement of the present position, and a forecast of this season’s output, the Director of Agriculture (Dr. €. J. Reakes) in referring to the hemp industry says: — “The hemp industry has experienced a comparatively good year and great interest lias been shown in flax cultivation, particularly in the Auckland province, where some new companies have been formed. The quality of the hemp produced has beenmaintained, and up to the end of November 50,249 bales of hemp and 23,373 hales of tow were submitted for grading. The figures for December, (when available'shortly, will, it is anticipated, bring the figures up to about 81,000 bales of hemp and 25,000 hales of tow. This quantify of hemp is approximately 5000 below the 1925 figures, but this is largely accounted for by the industry being held up i'or short periods once or twice during the the year by Hoods.
