We regret to report that Miss' Jna Robinson, daughter of Air and Airs F. Robinson, of Beach Road, entered Xorthcote private hospital at Palmerston North this morning to undergo an operation for appendicitis.
The death took place at Penrose, Auckland, on Sunday, of Avtlier Haynes, aged 3-1 years. Deceased was successfully operated upon last Thursday, hut complications set in and he passed away as stated. The late Air. Haynes, after returning from the war, married Afiss Ellen (“Nellie”) Robinson, daughter of Mrs. Robinson, of Thymic Street Foxton, who together with her four-year-old son is left to mourn their loss. The late Air. Hayne’s health was greatly impaired through injuries received at the war but lie was able to follow his occupation up to the time of his operation. The Rev. T. G. Hammond, a well-known Methodist minister, died at Lichfield on Wednesday. He was a recognised authority on Maori lore and customs, his book being noted ns a ( lassie. He spent 30 of his 80 years among the Maoris, and for many years resided at Paten. Born at Richmond, Nelson, in 184(5, he was 14 years in business before he was called to the Wesleyan ministry. He served as probationer in the Rangilikci, New Plymouth and Manawatu districts. His Maori missionary career started in IST# at Hokianga. When he retired on superannuation three years ago, he had tilled for 37 years the important office of superintendent of the Methodist Maori .Mission. His interment took plcae at Putaruni on Thursday. AH Hammond is survived by a widow, three sons and three daughters.
