ROAD CYCLE RACING.
YESTERDAY’S EVENTS WON BY ALDRIDGE AND NEWSON. Yesterday evening the Foxton Amateur Cycling Club put on two road cycle racing. The events were five and three miles respectively, and the course was round the Johnston St. block. There was a good attendance of .the public to witness the races. The results are as follows: — Five miles: —G. Aldridge (65see) 1, D. Knott) (3 sec) 2, G. Coley (55 sec) 3, C. Newson (85 sec) 4. Aldridge won by a. good length with a similar distance separating third and fourth.
Aldridge rode brilliantly. He was passed in the third lap by Knott, who led him in the fourth by a length, but in the last lap Aldridge went to the front and won comfortably. Three miles: —C. Newson (50 sec) 1, D. Knott (2 sec) 2, G. Aldridge (30 sec) 3, P. Honour (30 sec) 4. ' Newson passed the post about 50 yards ahead of Knott, who rode well into second place. A length separated third, and. fourth. Between the two events the Club put on a tricycle race for the kidcreated a great deal of amusement. Freddy McPherson was declared the winner and Bruce Smith was placed second, with Ronald Yeo third. The points secured by the various ridei’s to date are as follows: Knott 16, Shortt 10, Martin 9, J. Smith 7, E. Coley 8, P. Honour 6, Aldridge 8„ Newson 5, Satherley 3, G. Coley 4, H. Huff 2, Gupwell 1, Cunningham 1.
