WOMAN INJURED BY FLYING STICK
apparently thrown from THE ROADiSIDE. Waihi, November 3. A serious accident, the circumstances of which are surrounded by mystery, occurred to Mrs Bernard Roberts, of Waihi, who was proceeding to the Thames races with her husband, who was driving, and Miss Poppy Walnut. ’Tit appears that, when they were approaching Pnriri, a stout stick, several feet in length, came liurtliiifr through the air with considerate force, striking Mrs Roberts on the left check, and inflicting severe lacerated wounds to an eye and bruises on the cheek. .The force of the blow rendered Mrs Roberts temporarily unconscious, and first aid had to be rendered at Puriri. On arrival at. Thames she was medically attended, after which she returned to Waihi. The injured lady is now confined to her bed. Statements by the other occupants .of the car go to show that the stick appeared to have been deliberately thrown by some person concealed at the side of the road.
