CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND RIVER BOARD SCHEME.

What action has the Chamber taken in connection with the Mana-watu-Oroua River Board scheme? asked Mr Corn at Thursday’s meeting of the local. Chamber of Commerce. He stated that being'a stranger to the town he would like to know something of its advantages or otherwise. He had been informed that the scheme would be detrimental to Foxton.

The President (Air J. K Hornblow) said the Chamber had favoured the scheme and some time ago had informed the Board that it would be pleased to assist the scheme in any way' possible. The Chamber had arranged for a public meeting' to be addressed by the late chairman of the Board which had lapsed owing to Mr Bell’s death. The Chamber, not being a rating authority, did not give evidence before the Commission. It is generally agreed, said the president, that the scheme would be beneficial to the district as a whole as well as to the State.

. A discussion then took place re certain evidence which had been tendered which was considered irrelevant and a reflection upon Foxton.
