GIRL GUIDES.
SWEARING-IN THE BROWNIES
The enrolment ceremony of-'the younger members of the Girl Guides was performed at the local State School yesterday afternoon by Commissioner Kebbell, of Levin. The Committee and parents of the children were present, and the coremoriy took place in front of the school, the Union Jack being flown for the occasion. The leader (Mrs Stanley) was first enrolled as the “Brown Owl,” after which the “Brownies” were sworn-in as follows: —
Imps.—Eileen Francis (Sixers), Joan Mason, Margaret Hay, Kathleen Leach, Belle Marshall, Winnie Harris. 1 ;
Elves. —Connie Robinson (Sixers) Dorothy Rimmer, Eileen Smith, Ivy Leaver, Roseada Hoffman. . £
Little People. —Lexie Tollison (Sixers), Iris Neville, Joan Arden, Joyce- Rimmer, W. (Ebbett, Joan Cowley. After the ceremony Commissioner - Kebbell gave the Brownies a short address, and presented each one with their badge of enrolment. Commissioner Kebbell also inspected the Girl Guides, who paraded for the ceremony. Several members of the Girl Guides sat for their second class badges during the afternoon.
Prior to the ceremony, the local committee entertained Miss Kebbell at afternoon lea at Walls’ and a most entertaining and instructive hour was spent. Yesterday was Miss Kebbell’s first official visit since her appointment as Commissioner for this district.
