FOOTBALL.
J. Kirkland, who played in the Foxton Juniors two years ago, is now one of Canterbury’s foremost representatives. In the rep, match Canterbury v. Wellington, played at Christchurch on the 25th inst. Kirkland’s play was an outstanding feature of the game. The “Sun” in commenting on the game, refers to Kirkland as follows“ Well, who it it that does not agree that this was the best movement qf the day Kirkland came through the line-out like a baby ajax defying the lightning of the Wellington defence. He scurried up the field and passed to Scrimshaw, and the Canterbury wing forward, instead of running, flicked the ball inside him to Kirkland, who dived over. The man who started the movement crowned it, and the speed and precision of the passing were a delight to see.” Kirkland’s local club mates will be pleased to know that he has climbed to such heights on the Rugby ladder and there is no doubt if he continues on as he is going he should have no difficulty in wearing the All Black colours next year.
