W.C.T.U
The local branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, met in the Methodist Schoolroom on Thursday afternoon. A fair attendance' of members was present, Mrs Peryman presiding. Mrs Rimmer read a report of the League of Nations Conference, lately held in Wellington. Mrs Peryman spoke of our fine district convention held in Maslerton last week, and of the good work done there. It was decided that the next meeting , to be held on October 21st, take the form of a social afternoon in aid of the Willard Home, and be the annual effort, for the home. Members and friends are asked to bring gifts to that meeting of anything eatable or wearable. Any parcels of clothing or gifts can be left with Mrs Tong, Lady’s Mile, any time before the 21st.
The secretary explained to the meeting that a committee of ladies met every week to remake the clothing for the children. Any articles unsuitable for that purpose are sold at a jumble sale and so become a source of revenue.
