FLOOD DEPOSITS.

—4 The effects of the recent high Hood in the Manawatu are still visible on the pastures throughout the area which, the-waters covered. Upon traversing the river line from Bowe’s corner (Marotiri) northwards, a noticeable variety in the silt deposits is observed. In one area the flood waters have left rich silt, in another adjoining is to be seen coarse, sharp river sand, and yet further upriver the fine drift sand, so common along the sea front, is deposited. On Chesham’s property what was apparently a home cultivation section prior to the flood, is now a waste of drift sand, , with. here .and .there, a.row of vegetables rearing their foliage above the sandy deposit.
