BOWLING

Interest in the coming season is now being manifested in earnest; and preparations are being!made in all quarters for the opening of the playing season. Locally, the green and surrounds, are receiving the necessary attention, and from reports the playing area should be in good condition this year. Yesterday afternoon a good working bee was organised, which undertook the topdressing of the green in preparation for the opening in a fortnight’s time. The application of sulphate of ammonia to the weeds during the winter has eradicated most of these growths and with the good work done yesterday, and the free application of the roller, a little later on should make a great difference to the playing quality of the sward. It is reported that at least one rink from the local club will visit Shannon on Wednesday next for the opening of that club’s green.
