RUGBY FOOTBALL

PRIMARY SCHOOL FOOTBALL,

FOXTON WINS AUSTIN BANNER.

The Austin Banner competition is now completed after a very interesting series of games in which seven district schools took part. The banner has been won by Foxton with an unbeaten record, Levin and Otaki being equal for second place with two losses each.

On Saturday, a primary schools representative game will be played in Levin as a curtain-raiser to the Anal of the Nash Cup. A team from the North (Foxton, Shannon and Koputaroa) will meet a South team (Levin, Ohau and Otaki). SPEEDY MAORIS. Paris, September 14. The newspapers are still gasping with surprise at the Maoris’ colossal score, as no one expected such d crushing defeat. The critics agree that the visitors are less scientific than the All Blacks, being weak in passing, and lacking in cohesion, but they make up in' speed what they lack in science. The general opinion is that the best French teams will extend the Maoris, who will then have to tune their quickness and wits to speedy feet. _ The visitors are 'enjoying enthusiastic receptions owing to the inclusion of several war-time Anzacs.
