GIRLS OF AUSTRALIA.
A CRITIC CRITICISED. London, August 1. “Alay I remind Lady Duff-Gordon that the Australian girls are easily the prettiest in the world,” says Air. H. J. Fitzgibbon, in a letter to the Star.
“Unlike their English and American sisters,” he says, “they do not use powder or other camouflage to make themselves attractive. As regards dressing, I consider French girls are first and Australian girls next.
“Doubtless Lady Duff-Gordon has not visited Australia and New Zealand, otherwise she would recognise the claims of the girls of the sunny South lands.” Air. Fitzgibbon was induced to defend Australian girls because Lady Duff-Gordon said she preferred the looks of English girls, although she considered American girls dressed better. She made no mention of Australian girls.
