TWO BROTHERS RUN DOWN

ONE FATALLY INJURED

Palmerston North, August 1

A fatal accident occurred at Feilding a few minutes before 6 o’clock on Saturday night, when two pedestrians were run down by a motor-car.

Mr. Frank Lethbridge was driving his car along Aorangi Street, in the direction of the bridge, when another car was seen appoaching with very bright headlights. Mi’. Lethbridge pulled well, over to the side of the road to avoid the oncoming vehicle, and a few seconds later observed two pedestrians almost immediately in front of him. Owing to the glaring headlights of the other car, it is stated, the pedestrians could not be seen until it was too late, for although the driver applied his bakes immediately the car ran in to them.

Robert Ingle, a tally clerk at the Feilding freezing works, had both legs broken above the ankle, and also suffiered other injuries, to which he succumbed in the Palmerston Hospital at 2 o’clock on Sunday morning. The other pedestrian was a brother of the victim, and eesaped with a few abrasions.
