DIGNITV IN THE HOUSE.

ITALIAN AUTHOR’S VISIT TO PARLIAMENT.

Signor Arnaldo Cipolla, of the staff of the Torino newspaper “La Stampa,” and a well known Italian author, is on a visit to 'Wellington seeking material for a book he is writing on his travels. He is not favourably impressed with the endeavours being made to add dignity to our Parliament by the various restrictions placed on persons who visit the House of Representatives. Describing his own experience on visiting the House, he said: “Of course, when I enter the Parliament I take off my hat. When Igo into the gallery an official say to me, ‘You must not take your hat into the gallery.’ I say, ‘I am very son\y. Excuse me, I do not know.’ So I leave my hat on the outside. I sit down. The official say, What for you sit there when I tell you to sit here!’ I say, ‘Excuse me. I am very sorry. I do not know.” I sit down where he say. I place my hands on the front rail. The official say, ‘You must not do that. It is forbidden for the dignity.’ I say, ‘I am very sorry. Excuse me, Ido not know.’ He say, ‘lt is much against the dignity.’ I take out my pencil and book to write some notes. The official say ‘You must not do that. It is forbidden.’ I say, I am very sony. I do not know.’ I look and see ladies over there in the gallery. ‘Ah ha I’ I say, ‘ladies’ sewing school!’ I laugh, ‘Ah .ha, ha! Where is the dignity Ah ha ha!’ The official take me by the arm and say ‘Coble outside. It is forbidden to laugh.’ And Igo outside.

“You have a New Zealand Mussolini in the chair, I think. I write it all in my book.” Signor Cipolla, who has written many books, shows a newspaper report wherein is stated that over 4000 people attended a lecture by him in Rome. His impressions of New Zealand are to figure prominently in the book he is now preparing.—Dominion.
