BOWLING

* ANNUAL CENTRE MEETING

The annual meeting of the Manawalu Bowling Centre was held on Monday, the president, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., occupying the chair. . The annual report submitted, and adopted, contained among other matters, a recommendation that the Christmas tournament be reinstated, and that the Stansell Shield be allocated for this fixture. The executive decided, after full and mature consideration, to hand the Dixon Cup, Tucker Badges, and Manson and Barr Cups back to the clubs in the -centre, to be under their control in the future. A number of Queensland bowlers are expected in the Dominion about January or February next and it is to be hoped that Palmerston North will be included in the itinerary. Notwithstanding additional expense in entertaining this year there is a credit balance of £SO 13s, which must be regarded as satisfactory.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President, Mr. J. A. Nash, M. P..; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Herdman (Feilding) and G. W. Wardrop (Woodville); secretary, Mr. A. F. Wimsett; auditor, Mr. W:. Hunter.

On the suggestion of the president it was decided to reinstitute the New Year tournament, and, after some discussion, it was decided to hold this on January 1, 3 and 4. The prize money was fixed at three guineas and one guinea, with an entrance fee of 10s Gd per man.

The prize money for the Easter tournament was allowed to remain as formerly. *'

At the annual meeting" of the Island Bay Bowling Club (Wellington) a proposal introduced by Mr. Charles Hart to play bowls on Sunday was defeated by 25 votes to 12. The motion was discussed at length by various members, but the arguments of those against Sunday play were too strong for those put forth by the supporters of the proposal. The question of expense in having the green ready for Sunday, and the wear and tear of use for seven days a week were deciding factors against the proposal.
