AERIAL SURVEY OF FLOODED DISTRICT.

TWO AND THREE-QUARTER HOURS FLIGHT FROM CHRISTCHURCH. Shortly after 1 p.m. to-day an aeroplane, piloted by Captain W. M. Buckley, arrived over Foxton with the object of taking an aerial survey of the Hooded area of the Manawatu basin.

Captain Wilks, director of the Government Aerial Forces, arrived in Foxton yesterday and made arrangements for the landing of the machine and other details. The landing took place at Mr. S. Austin’s property at Himatangi. The weather conditions were favourable for the flight. We understand that the survey is being undertaken at the request of the Manawatu-Oroua River Board.

The following is the machine’s flying time: Left aerodrome, Christchurch at 10.25 a.m., arrived at Kaikoura 11.40 a.m. Blenheim 12.20 p.m., Wellington 12.45 p.m., Kapiti 1 p.m., Foxton 1.15 p.m. landed Himatangi 1.30 p.m. The site selected for landing was ideal for the purpose and. was indicated by white sheets and a splendid landing was affected. To-day is the first, non-stop flight between Christchurch and Foxton. Captain Buckley was accompanied by air mechanic H. H. Smith.
