JOY-RIDERS PUNISHED.
Hamilton, Last Night. Two young men named Peter Gillies Hanson and Wilfred Edevin Dobson, appeared in the Hamilton Court to-day, charged conjointly with converting thirteen cars to (heir own use, and with the theft of benzine used in the cars which they took. Hanson alone also was charged with converting three cars to his own use and with the theft of a tin of benzine from a ear standing at the roadside at Morrinsville. The ears, which were mostly Dodges) had been used chiefly for journeys to Morrinsville, where apparently defendants met two young ladies. The cars were as a rule, abandoned in Hamilton.
Accused pleaded guilty, Mr. Wilson, S.M., said undoubtedly Hanson appeared to have been the ringleader.' The acts of dishonesty were not committed on the spur of the moment, hut were deliberate, and had extended over a period of several months. Hanson would •he sentenced to one month’s imprisonment on one charge, ami on the other His Worship would deal with him as he proposed to deal with Dobson. He would place them both on probation for two years, one condition being that they did not drive ears during tlia] period, and another that they each pay within two months £l3 12s 3d, their share of the damage done to ears, cost of benzine stolen and of the prosecution. They would also he required to each lodge o bond of £IOO as guarantee that the terms of the probation would he carried out.
