HEMP MARKET.

1 JUNE GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of June have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: — The detailed particulars of the hemp graded are: —

Eleven bales at Auckland, 98 at Wellington, 133 at Foxton and 7 at Blenheim were rejected. The number of bales in each grade were as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:—Fine nil (71), good fair 664 (647), high fair 3566 (3741), low fair 1588 (2249), comimon 445 (369), rejected 249 (145), condemned nil (8), a total of 6506 bales as against 7230 graded the same period last year, a decrease of 724 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 1099, Wellington 2170, Foxton 1365, Wairoa 460, Piet on 87, Blenheim 254, Dunedin 202, Pt. Chalmers 92, Bluff 685, Romahapa 92. Forty-two at Auckland, 34 at Wellington, 23 at Foxton and 9 at the Bluff were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: Ist grade 222 (221), 2nd. grade 1219 • (1287), 3rd grade 168 (252), condemned 108 (136), a total of 1717 hales as against 1896 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 179 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port were Auckland 332, Wellington 651, Foxton 123, Wairoa 66, Picton 30, Blenheim 81, Pt Chalmers 56, Bluff 353, Dunedin 25. Stripper tow:—One hundred and fifty-two bales at Wellington and 94 at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. Ten at Wellington were graded 3rd grade. A total of 256 bales as against 134, graded the same period last year, showing an increase of 122 bales.

Stripper slips:—One at Auckland, 7 at Wairoa and 2 at the Bluff wore graded 2nd grade. Thirtysix at Wellington and 48 at the Bluff were passed for export, and 6 at the Bluff were condemned. '['he total number graded was 100 as against 208 graded last a decrease of" 108 bales.
