FOXTON FOOTBALL CLUB.

A SOCIAL EVENING. A social evening was held in the Masonic Haiti last night by the members of the Foxton Football (dub and their lady friends. The affair was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The supper arrangements were supervised by Alesdames Procter, ITensman, Stevenson and Roore. During the evening, Mr. G. Smith gave a humorous recitation entitled “Mindin’ the Hole in (he Road” which was vociferously encored and Mr. Hinds sang “Playthings” very acceptably. The dance music, was supplied by Air, George while Messrs. Hutchins, Stevenson and Barron officiated as M’s.C. At a suitable juncture, the president called upon Mr. J. Iv. Hornldow to present the medals won by the seven-a-side third grade team at the Levin Easter tournament. In doing so Air. Ilornblow referred to the selection of “Moses” in the Maori All Black team to tour France and Great Britain, and said (he club was honoured by the selection of one of its senior players and felt confident that Aloses would more than justify his position in the team and reflect credit upon the club and district. He hoped the club and town would give “Moses” a fitting send-off. Other club matters were touched on.and special mention was made of the third grade team and their coach, Mr. M. Cook. Aliss Owen pinned (he medals on the coats of the recipients amidst applause and cheers. The Seven-a-side team were: Stevenson Wright, Ross, Rankin, Hartley. SATURDAY’S RESULTS.

HAWKE’S BAY 40 v. WAIRARAPA 12. Throe thousand people saw Hawke’s Bay, minus Nepia, Cooke, and Irvine, defeat W'airarapa in the return match of the 1926 home and home series by 40 points to 12 at Masterton on Saturday. Conditions were almost ideal, and the shield holders gave a splendid alllound display, though at times their handling among the hacks was faulty. The forwards played attractive football, and combined nicely with the backs in all movements. The home team did well to keep the score down !o the 28 points margin, for their combined play was only revealed in patches, while the inside backs repeatedly let the Mill, Cbrkill, Paewai combination through. Roach, the borne full-back, played a sterling game, his tackling being - spectacular and accurate till lie retired through colliding with a goal post when tackling Walker. The Wairarapa forwards, plhyed courageously against a better pack, but did not enjoy l lit 1 same measure of success through the inability of their backs to turn their advantages to profitable account. The Hawke’s Bay backs were always quick to seize openings and their smartness in gathering the ball, and getting out of awkward situations, lionpulsed the home defence. Mill was always brilliant, and closed the first .spell with the most spectacular piece of solo play over seen on the Memorial Park. He gathered a miskiok from Tait at half-way, and, with well-timed dummies and sidestepping, threaded his way through the whole Wairarapa team, and scored under the posts, and converted, himself.

Tn (lie first spell tries were scored by Paewai, Mill (2) Blake, M. Brownlie. G. Yates converted two, and Mill one. For Wairarapa W. Yates kicked a penalty goal, and Jury scored a fry. In the second spell Grenside (3)|, A Hiker, and Mahoney scored tries, Grenside converting two, while Yates scored a trv and kicked another penalty for Wairarapa.
