FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chombers Inst night. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported as follows: —During the month the road staff has been engaged on the following works: cleaning drains, Avenue Road, Russell St., Norbiton Road and Spring St.; carting metal and patching Victoria St., Snndon Road, Avenue Road and Park St.; breaking up and carting concrete from Town Hall site; clenn--ing Main St., and general maintenance. Owing to the non-arrival of metal ordered from Rnngitikei not much repair work has been done to the roads. As soon as the metal comes to hand Victoria and Park streets and Avenue and Moutoa Roads and the Lady's Mile will receive attention. —Adopted. Cr. Walker brought under the notice of Ihe Council the bad state of the top end of Coley Street. The Mayor said this portion of the road was probably the worst in the borough. This was due to the fact that it was a “dead end.” Cr. Woods also complained of the had stale of the road in front of Messrs Ross, Rough’s office. The Mayor said that: a number of Ihe roads were in a bad state and that this was due to the Council not being able to secure metal. They had scoured the country for metal and lie was pleased to report that some, had now been secured. 'Both matters would be placed before the road foreman. WATER AND DRAINAGE WORKS. The waterworks foreman reported as follows: —During the month one household was connected with the high pressure water supply, and one hot and cold water service instalfd. Lupins h ave also been cut: down and all maintenance work attended to. During the month 045,000 gallons of water was pumped, I lie maximum current used’being 31 amps. —Adopted. HEAVY TRAFFIC LICENSE FEES. A letter was received from Mr. F. Connell, clerk of the Kairanga County Council, notifying that a conference of local bodies would be held in Palmerston North on June 23 in regard to the apportionment of heavy traffic license fees. Crs. MeMurvay and Woods were appointed delegates to represent the Council at Ijhe conference. RELIEF FOR UNEMPLOYMENT. The Mayor said that in order to assist to relieve local unemployment some of the footpath construction work for which the loan was carried recently, would he put in hand in the near future. It was decided to hold a meeting of the public works committee on June 24, to consider the matter. GENERAL. A letter was received from the Department of Health notifying the Council of precautions to he taken in case of an epidemic. The Town Clerk reported that he had submitted the letter to the health officer, who had promised to keep in touch with the matter. The letter was received. The action of the Mayor and Town Clerk in obtaining 1000 vgrds of metal from Ohau was endorsed. The thanks of the Council was tendered to Mrs E. Parkin, W. H. Walker, E. Healey, for donations of hooks for the library. The sub-division of Mr. A. Fraser’s property on the north side of Lady’s Mile was approved. It was decided that a water connoeiion he laid to Mr. Kennedys section in Jenks St. in view of the fact that the house in question was not burnt down until after the estimates for the were proposed.
