MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Manawatu County Council met at Sanson yesterday, Cr. 11. 11. Hunt presiding. There were also present:—Crs. 11. J. Fagan, IV. E. Barber, J. Boyce, D. W. Reid and \\". !•]. Pearce. Cr. J. McKelvie was granted leave of absence. Notification was received from Ihe District Highways Council that the control of the Rangitikei bridge at Bulls was vested in the Rangitikei County Council and the cost of maintaining it was to be equally divided between that Council and the Manawatu County Council. —Received.
The Department of Internal Affairs wrote advising that a commission had been set up in connection with allocation of the cost of works proposed by the ManawatuOroua River Board and that the Board had named the Council as a local authority which would receive benefit from the proposed operations. —Resolved to object to the Council being included in the proposed rating area and to refer the matter to the County solicitor.—i The clerk was authorised to make the necessary arrangements. The Council resolved to accept the offer of Messrs. C. L. Duigan find C'o. with reference to the taking up of debentures in connection with the issue of portions of the Main Highways loan (£7,500 and £15,000). The Council decided to charge the Foxton Borough Council for 50 yards of metal taken from one dump near the Foxton Racecourse and to request the Borough to credit the Council with the amount received from the Highways Board towards the cost of boundary roads.
The following alteration to the rate roll was approved:- —W. L. and A. L. Bishop, rural section 48, Township of Samlon, to 11. W. Green.
The tramway manager reported that the accounts for the month showed a, debit balance of £lO5 0s 3d. The chief items or traffic were: —Minerals and manure, 2911 tons; general merchandise, (ill tonsj stock, 43 trucks; metal, 450 cubic yards; timber, 16,700 sup. feet and fares amounted to £2 Is 4d. —Received.
The Engineer reported as follows on the Awahou Riding:—The Slian-non-Foxton road has been trimmed up with the grader and at the present time the road was in good order. The fence on the bank of the drain along the WWokino road was much dilapidated and out of order and to put the fence in good order would cost £3O.
Tramway. —Repairs had been carried out at various places along the line, and the surfacemen were now packing a short length of line between Sanson and Penny’s siding. The demonstration of the petrol driven trolley was being held over for a more convenient time.
