FOXTON SOCCER CLUB.
JUNIOR TEAM FORMED.
A meeting of those interested in this formation of a junior Soccer team locally was held in Perreau’s rooms last night. There was a fair muster of lads present, and Mr. J. McColl was elected to the chair. In outlining the object of the meeting, Mr. McColl said that it would not be 'possible for 'the team to travel a great deal this season. Friendly matches could be arranged, however, and he hoped all those present would take the game up seriously and get down to practice. The following signified their intention of playing:—Kennedy, Lockwood, R. Barry, M. Walsh, N. Hendrickson, T. Lendl, McKay, Andrews, Reader, 11. Perreau. It was decided the club be run under the senior club until the end of the present season. Lectures will be held in order to make the members conversant with the rules of Soccer. The annual subscription was fixed at 7/6. A practice will be held on Easton Park at 1.30 p.m. on. Saturday. The first lecture will be held at Mr. Hinds’ residence next Wednesday evening at 7.30 o’clock. Mr. J. McColl will act as coach to the team. “Hotspur,” writing in the Palmerston Standard, makes the following comments: —St. Andrew’s decisively defeated Foxton last week, but the score cannot be regarded as an indication of the merits of the two teams. The local team was certainly the better combination, but Foxton fought a strenuous game throughout. Foxton’s forward line is very weak and needs strengthening, while many of the players have yet to learn how to keep cool. Over-eagerness to secure the leather is a bad fault, and on Saturday many opportunities were lost in this respect and through erratic kicking.
