SOCCER.
ATHLETICS v. FOXTON. The above teams met on Easton Park on Saturday in showery weather. Foxton won the spin of the coin and played towards the southern goal. From the kick oft Foxton invaded their opponents goal, a clever pass from McKnight enabled Taylor to step in and score within the first minute. Athletic did likewise within a minute of the return kick off. Shortly after Athletic again scored giving them the lead, 2—l. Another attacking movement ended in Athletic scoring their third goal. Give and take play ensued for some considerable time, Foxton playing with a man short from the start. Athletic came away again and scored their 4th goal! Athletic followed up their attack and again scored inside the next minute. This gave them a lead of s—l,5 —1, five minutes from the interval. At this stage of the game Ferric, Foxton’s left back, came on the field completing. Foxton’s full team. Foxton now bucked up and had a better share of the play, eaeli goal being visited in return till twenty minutes had gone when McKnight scored right on the post. From this out there was no further scores, although both teams tried hard to improve their position. The game was marred owing to the greasy nature of the ball, both sides making some bad mistakes. Time was called almost in darkness. Athletic winnig by 5 goals to 2.
Following were the teams: Athletic: McKinley, Asknm, Travers, Davis, Whitehouse, Bcere, McLeod, Childs, Hcrsay, Ilamman and Palmer. Foxton: Leaver, A. Crowe. Ferric, Lloyd, P. Pedersen, Hinds, McKnight, 11. Pedersen, Coulson, W. Monnsey and Taylor*. Foxton arc to meet St. Andrew’s on North St. Park, Palmerston, next Saturday.
