THIRDS: Weraroa 6, Foxton. 3. Shannon 8, Miranui 0. Kuku 19, S. United 5. FOURTHS: Foxton G, Foxton D. 11.5. nil. Shannon won by default from Weraroa. CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE. Owing to Weraroa’s withdrawal it has been necessary to further alter the table for the first round. The following teams, who have not yet played Weraroa, are credited with a win:—Hui Mai, Shannon,

Much interest was evinced in the Awahou v. Foxton Jnrs. match on the racecourse on Saturday, and despite somewhat inclement weather conditions, a good attendance was present to witness the match. The teams were as follows:

Foxton: J. Scott, T. Shaw, R. Andrews, E. Graham, L. Mohekey, C. Anderson, R. Morgan, Pullen, G. Perreau, Huff (2), H. Robinson, G. Hartley, Hotorini, and G. Woods. Awahou: T. Hogworth, T. McDonald, C. Renata, J. Polo, E. Robinson, J. McGregor, C. Shortt, E. Boyle, T. Carter, J. McGregor, S. Rautahi, P. Stretch, 11. Eperaima, Wallbutton and 11. McGregor.

Awahou won the toss and elected to defend the southern goal. Shortly after the commencement Awahou was penalised for off-side play. Securing the ball from the resulting kick, they forced Foxton (yellow)j back into their own 25, but from a scrum Robinson secured and with a good kick took play back into midfield. H. McGregor, with the ball at his feet, dribbled it up to Foxton 25 line where a scrum resulted. Foxton got the ball out and passing from Huff to Robinson to Huff play was again taken back to midfield. Awahou worked the play again to Foxton’s 25, but yellows rushed play back to midfield. Wallbutton sent. Awahou racing back to the Foxton 25 with a good kick, but J. Huff returned by a good line kick. Andrews then secured for Foxton and a yellow attack followed. Foxton was penalised for off-side play, and Perreau securing set the Foxton backs in action and the ball went out ten yards from the Awahou goal line. Foxton attacked hard, but McGregor saved the situation with a good kick. The ball was immediately sent back again and Shortt was called upon to save for Awahou. H. Huff, securing from a scrum on the 25 line kicked high and Foxton followed up, but Shortt marked. Play hung around Awahou’s 25 line until H. Huff secured a mark outside Awahou’s 25. An attempt at goal faded. Foxton lost no time in again invading Awahou’s territory, and Hartley was conspicuous in a good rush. Woods now came into prominence and with a dribbling rush Awahou’s line was in danger. A five-yards scrum resulted from which McGregor made a good save. Hartley secured and raced across the field passing to Robinson, who found the line. Shammy made a good attempt at potting a goal for Foxton from near the half way line, but just missed. Foxton still pressed and kept play confined to Awahou’s 25 for a while. Pullen, kicking a little too hard sent the ball behind the goal line near tlm corner and caused Awahou to force. Awahou then rallied and took play to Foxton’s. 25 with passing rushes and kicks. From a penally, an attempt to kick a goal was made, but failed. From another penalty Huff was called on to save and cleared nicely with a line kick. Awahou took play back again, however, and Pullen headed the play back to midfield. Awahou still pressed and for a time looked dangerous. From a serum near the line, Foxton took the ball with them and a free kick gave them temporary relief. Awahou was not to be deified, however, and this time Foxton was compelled to force. Midfield play then resulted until E. Robinson set the Awahou backs going and they took play back to yellow’s territory. Woods relieved and took play back to midfield. Bent on scoring Awahou pressed Foxton back and Huff was kept busy at safe defensive work. Exciting play near the Foxton goal line was' terminated when it was noticed that the line umpire’s flag had been up for some time and play was brought back to the 25 line. E. Robinson put in a good run, but Woods saved and H. Huff found the line. Silk then made a great effort and looked very like registering a try for Awahou. Foxton managed to clear from a serum, however. Boyle started Blacks backs racing, and but for Huff’s splendid defence they would have crossed. From a penalty on Foxton’s 25 J. McGregor just failed with an attempt at‘

goal, the ball going on the outside of the posts. Foxton had a strenuous time defending for a wh'lc and were kept confined to their own half. The first spell ended with Awahou attacking, no score being registered by either side.

From the short of the second spell Awahou attacked and their backs put in s jmc good work, with the result that it was not long before McDonald crossed the line, registering the first try of the day, McGregor was unfortunate with a good kick. Awahou 5, Foxton nil. Heavy rain commenced to fall about this time and marred Ihe play somewhat, it being practically impossible to handle the ball. Foxton rallied and Hartley raced the ball down to Awahou’s 25 where they kept play for some time and on several occasions were within an ace of scoring. After an exchange of loose play, Awahou took play back to Foxton’s 25 and a force down accepted. The ball by this time was very greasy and hard to handle and up and under play was adopted by both sides. Free kicks were plentiful, both sides frequently being penalised. J. Huff made a brilliant run for Foxton and took play into midfield where play was when the call of time came. The ball still being in play the game was continued and E. Robinson securing made a fine run down the line and passed out to Shortt who darted over. McGregor failed with the kick and the game ended, Awahou f>, Foxton nil.

The Awahou backs showed much better combination than Foxton, and had they made the game more open their score would have been doubled. E. Robinson, Renata and Carter were a dangerous trio. The Awahous were much heavier than Foxton and on a classification basis at least three of their players should he excluded from junior contests. Anyhow why Renata and Boyle in junior football The Huff brothers, Perreau Woods, Andrews and Scot! and Hartley were kept busy and were prominent, J. Huff being the shining light. Morgan, one of the yellow’s best, was a mere passenger during Saturday’s game and Robinson’s tackling was faulty. Hussey’s service were badly needed. The yollows on the whole were not up to their best form and lacked Awabou’s better combination. Had J. Huff had a backing when lie made the best solo run of the match there was nothng to prevent a score. The Foxton backs were too bunched to effectively check Awahou’s splendid outfield tactics. A further meeting between these two teams should be an interesting and spectacular game. Both teams are to be commended for the fine spirit in which the game was played. Mr. McDonald controlled the game.

A committee meeting of the Foxton Club will be held this evening at. fi.45 to discuss matters of importance. The Hui Mai v. Foxton sepiors proved a good game, Hui Mai winning by the narrow margin of two points, B—G, two tries (one converted) to two penalty goals.
