IN BANKRUPTCY.
The meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Oscar Mayor Jacobsen, labourer, of Foxton, called for Saturday, lapsed for want of a quorum, only one creditor, Mr. Ai. E. Tongs, together with the. bankrupt and his solicitor (Mr. J. L. C. Merton) and the D.O.A. (|Mr. C. E. Dempsy) being present. A personal statement presented by the bankrupt disclosed that he had been residing at Foxton for about 14 years. He had always been able to pay his way until about two years ago, when his wife became seriously ill. He. had to incur heavy medical expenses and to obtain help to look after his three children,, the eldest being six years old. At the same time he was out of work for about four months. This, with his wife’s illness, took all the money he had saved. Since that" time he had been in fairly constant work. His wages were £4 6s a week, but with broken time his earnings would not average £3 10s. He had done his best to reduce the liabilities, and the majority of the creditors had been paid something on account, in addition to which he had paid cash for what he had been purchasing. He had no furniture or assets, the furniture in the house being a present to his wife from her father. Part of it she had sold to pay expenses of moving and for the reduction of some of the debts. He could make no offer to his creditors'.
