PRESENTATION TO MR. ALF. FRASER.
Opportunity was taken by members of the Wanganui Education Board, at last night’s meeting, to farewell Mr. Alf. Eraser- —who has been a conspicuous figure in educa : lional circles for twenty-one years —on the eve of his departure for a trip to the Old Country. The chairman (Mr. W. Collins), in wishing Mr. Fraser lion voyage and a safe return, referred to the retiring member’s long and valuable services. In reply to Mr. Collins and other-speakers, Mr. Fraser expressed regret at his severance from the Board’s work, but thought he was entitled to a rest. He referred to the extent to which the Government had gradually whittled down the Board’s powers, until to-day it had little else to do but- to administer the Department’s regulations. A motion was passed by the Board, regretting that Mr. Fraser did not intend to seek reelection, and placing on record its (high appreciation of the valuable services he had rendered in the cause of education. Subsequently the Board tangibly expressed its esteem of the retiring member, by making him the recipent of a clock and a box of cigars.—Chronicle.
