FOXTON RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB.
A meeting of the management committee of the above club, was held on Thursday evening, presided over by Mr. H. Hutchins (president). There were also present: Messrs. C. Proctor, G. Smith, G. Alexander, AI. Cook, R. McMurray, W. Neville (union delegate), D. Christie and the secretary (Mr. D. Barron). Formal correspondence was read and received and accounts amounting to £1 9s 3d were passed for pay meat. The credit balance was reported at £23 17s od. It was decided to entertain the Kia Ton at a dinner on Saturday evening. A lengthy discussion took place re matches on Easton Park, and the delegate was instructed to recommend to the union that round fixtures be played on Easton Park on every available Saturday. It was resolved that the club pay the travelling, expenses of the delegate to the next council meeting of the union and that the union be debited with the amount.
Resolved that the club pay the affilliation fee for the District High School.
A discussion took place on the unsportsmanlike conduct of representatives of outside clubs importuning local players to play outside their own locality. On the motion of Air. R. McMurray it was decided that the Foxton club request the union to consider the advisability of preventing canvassers from going into other districts and taking men away from their residential club.
Resolved that the juuiors be requested to attend the next meeting of committee on 20lh inst. to discuss the question of travelling to Wellington to play Berhampore on June 3rd; The resolution of Air. Fred Robinson as a vice-president was accepted. The senior team attended and discussed matters for the season and the following selectors were appointed: Messrs Aloses, H. Taylor and H. Reid. NO REP. MATCHES FOR FOXTON. AIR. FRED ROBINSON’S NOTICE OF AIOTION. Afr. Fred Robinson, the Awaliou Junior Football Club’s delegate to the Horowhenua Rugby Union has given notice of motion which he intends to move at Alonday’s meeting of the H.R.U committee: “That in order to strengthen the finances of the union, all visiting representative games be played in Levin dur-ing-1926, and all players assemble at their own expenses.” 4 The notice of motion will come as a bomb-shell to local footballers and followers of the game as the elimination of Foxton as a centre for rep. fixtures caused a big split in the union two years ago. It is difficult to understand Mr. Robinson’s attitude in view of the fact that Foxton put up a record gate for rep. matches. In that case he is not assisting the finances of the union. Anyhow his reasons for the motion will he awaited with interest.
So far the Awaliou Club has not held its annual meeting. I understand that the club will enter one junior team in the competitions this year.
