IN BANKRUPTCY.

Jack Kauri, of Bainesse, filed a petition in bankruptcy at Palmerston North yesterday. His debts amount to £l7O 17s. His creditors, all. unsecured, are as follow: —W. D. Bauckham £39, D. W. Robertson, Ltd., £l6, A. 0. Oliver £7, T. W. Winstanley and Son £66, all of Foxton; F. A. Mills (Oroua Downs) £l9, J. H. Duncan (Rangiotu) £4 19s, J. S. Hartley (HimitangD £2 18s P.N. Dairy Coy. (in liquidation) £l6. Assets nil'. Bankrupt in his statement, describes himself as an aboriginal native, and states that, for the past three or four years, he has been working intermittently for Mr. Barber at 10s a day. Last year he took a llax-cutting contract and had to employ and board men. “Some of them knew nothing about cutting flax and could not make enough to pay their tucker bills,” reads the statement. “I had to ineurr heavy accounts with the storekeepers which I have not been able to pay, although I have done my best. This season past I have been milking on shares with Mr. Barber, receiving £l2 per month and paying £4 10s (Id for labour. I was just about able to meet living expenses. I am a married man with five children, the eldest being eight years old. I have no assets and can make no offer to my creditors.”
