BOWLING.
CENTRE TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED.
The Manawa'tu Centre Easter Tournament was concluded at Palmerston North yesterday, when Woodville (Nicholas, Bly, G. H. Trott, G. Wardrop, skip) defeated Feilding (Way, Moore, R_. Ross, J. Ilcrdman, skip) by 22 points to 11 in a game of 21 heads. Wtoodville are therefore the winners of the tournament, Feilding securing second place. The final for the third and fourth places was played on Tuesday when A. E. Kerslake, V. Goldfinch, J. Paton, W. B. Crump, skip (Palmerston North) defeated J. H. Nash, W. W. Jones, R. Ramsay, F. Needham, skip (Palmerston North) by 12 points to 11. The Foxton rink: —-Winstanley, Jno. Ross, Christie, Thomson (s) — met Needham’s rink in the first round of the semi-finals an Tuesday, and were defeated by 23 points to 16.
Although Thomson’s rink were unable to get any further in the contest than the first round of the semi-finals, nevertheless their performance throughout .the tournament reflects credit upon the combination of the rink. This is the first occasion on which Thomson has attempted the responsibilities of a skip under Centre contest conditions and the fact that he and his associates pulled off seven games of the nine in the qualifying rounds, especially without having played together in anticipation of and previous to the tournament, is the more creditable.
Yesterday afternoon a rink from Foxton tried conclusions with Suhan’s rink for the Kinncburgli Feathers, but were unsuccessful in bringing the trophies home.
