TRAIN AND LORRY COLLIDE.

Christchurch, March 28

At 4.45 yesterday afternoon a train collided with a motor-lorry at the Templeton railway crossing, Eye-witnesses of the accident state that both the lorry and train were travelling slowly. The driver of the lorry (E. Suckling) was thrown out of his seat by the impact, and lie landed in front of the engine. There he was picked up by the projecting cow-catcher, thrown aside, and so saved from certain death. His injuries, however, were severe, and he was taken to the hospital, where it was found he had suffered a fracture of the skull and severe head wounds. The motor-lorry was completely wrecked. To-day it was reported that Suckling’s condition had improved.
