HALF FACE BLOWN AWAY.

Auckland, March 27

Mavis Mace, aged about 19, had half her face blown away by an explosion of a gun, which it is understood, she was cleaning. Miss Mace was alone in the house. A neighbour, hearing a scream, rushed in and caught Miss Mace as she fell. Blood was streaming from her face. The bullet had entered the left nostril below the nose and shattered the right cheek bone.

The girl is now in hospital in a serious condition. Her mother states that her daughter was a bright jolly girl. The accident is an absolute mystery, as far as she knew the daughter had nothing to worry about.
