IMPORTANT TO LOCAL BODIES,

CONTRACTOR TO PAY FOR

ROAD WEAR

Invercargill, March 17,

A judgment of importance to local bodies was delivered by Mr. Cruickshank, S.M., to-day. The Wallace County Council proceeded against a contractor, Frank Christie, for £3OO for extraordinary expenses incurred in repairing Te Anau raods owing to the heavy traffic caused by defendant in conveying material for a hotel for the Tourist Department. His Worship said that as the result of the traffic a fairly good metal road had been cut to pieces. Contracts had been let for repairs totalling £965, so the defendant had no ground of complaint regarding the amount claimed. Judgment was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed, and costs.
