SUPREME COURT SENTENCES
Wellington, March 17. Eugene McCarthy, who had committed thefts from Palmerston North dwellings, was ordered three years’ detention in the Borstal Institute by the Supreme Court today. It was stated that the prisoner was now over 18 years of. age and the hope expressed that he would reform and not ruin his young life. James Albert Peddler received 18 months’ imprisonment for the theft of money. Edward Geoffrey Sutherland, who had admitted having committed forgery in the Woodville district, was ordered to repay the money involved, also costs. He was 1 old by the Chief Justice, Mr. Skerret, that this was his last chance. Prisoner said lie would not have committed the offence but for the fact that lie was out of work and penniless at the time.
