HEMP MARKET.
FEBRUARY GRADING RETURNS
The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips tor the month of February have been issued by the Depatment of Agriculture as follows:
The detailed particulars of the hemp graded are: —
One hundred and sixteen bales atPicton were graded fine. Thirty-five bales at Auckland, 135 at Wellington, 126 at Foxton, 5 at Blenheim, 7 at the Bluff and 9 at Lyttleton were rejected. The number of bales in each grade were as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:— Fine 116 (70), good fair 787 (1111), high fair 5738 (4576), low fair 2696 (2877), common 303 (478), rejected 317 (276), and 16 condemned, a total of 9957 bales as against 9410 graded the same period last year, an increase of 547 bales.
The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 2447, Wellington 3366, Foxton 2099, Wairoa 282, Picton 153, Blenheim 239, Dunedin 66, Pt. Chalmers 103, Bluff 1103, Lyttleton 99. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded: —•
Seventeen bales at Auckland, 63 at Wellington, 26 at Foxton, and 2 at the Bluff were condemned.
The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: Ist grade 416 (301), 2nd grade 1895 (1763), 3rd grade 533 (549), condemned 108 (79), a total of 2952 bales as against 2692, an increase of 260 bales.
The number of bales graded at each port were Auckland 821, Wellington 687, Foxton 453, Picton 66, Blenheimlo4, Dunedin 1, Pt. Chalmers 38, Bluff 497, Lyttelton 11, Waikuku 274. Stripper Tow:— Wellington had 35 Ist. grade bales. One hundred and two at Wellington and 60 at Foxton were graded 2nd. Seventyfour at Wellington and 26 at Foxton were graded 3rd. Twenty four bales from Foxton were passed for export and 15 at Wellington were condemned, making a total of 336 bales as against 80 graded last year, being an increase of 256 bales. Stripper Slips:—Sixty nine bales at Auckland were graded 2nd grade, 36 at Wellington, 34 at Foxton, and 77 at the Bluff. Thirty seven at Auckland were passed for export, 20 at Foxton, 71 at Wellington and 73 at the bluff. Eight at Auckland and 2at the Bluff were condemned. The total number graded was 427 as against 166 for the same period last year, being an increase of 261 bales.
