DAYLIGHT SAVING.
PROPOSAL REJECTED BY COUNCIL.
At last night’s meeting of the Borough Council a letter was received from the New Zealand Sports Protection League in reference to the Daylight Saving Bill, asking for the Council’s support in obtaining legislation on this matter
The matter has been previously before the Council and Cr. Walker suggested that the letter be received.
Cr. Thompson said that he was opposed to the Bill. The measure was impracticable with farmers. The farming community rose at daybreak and worked until dark. If the clock was advanced an hour factory hands would have to commence work earlier than at present.

After further discussion it was decided not to support the measure by five votes to four, Crs Cowley, Winstanley, Adams, and McMurray voting for and Crs Walker, Rand, Parkin, Woods and Thompson against.
