MANAWATU-OROUA RIVER BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Ma-nawatu-Oroua Rivers Board was held at Palmerston on Thursday. Mr. H. Akers accupied the chair. Other members present were: Messrs A. Akers, H. J. Walton, B. G. Gower, J. E. C. Harrison, N. P. Neilsen and A. Seifert. A letter was received from Mr. A. N. T. Gribble of Hamilton, stating that he proposed leaving next month for a trip to U.S.A., England and Europe where herwould investigate the economic aspect of land drainage as in vogue in those countries and that he would provide a report if the Board so desired. —Decided to take no action

The Department of Lands and Survey wrote advising that the plans for the Board’s district had been examined and approved.—Received.

The Department of Internal Affairs advised that the Board’s application for an apportionment among various local bodies and subdivisions of the district with regard to the cost of proposed works, would be subjected to careful consideration and the decision would be forwarded later.—Received. Decided to call for nominations for the vacancy on the Board, caused through the resignation of Mir. K. McDonald.

A suggestion that the Board again notify the settlers along the Oroua River that they are expected to cut willows was made by Mr. Wilton who stated that willows had now become a general nuisance.— It was decided to follow the suggestion and stipulate a date when the trees should, he cut. If the work is then not done the Board would do the work and charge the costs to the settlors concerned. A deputation comprising Messrs. T. W. Very and W. Ramsdale waited on the meeting requesting that their properties be reclassified but the chairman explained that the settlers had been given a chance to appeal against the new classification but had failed to take advantage of the opportunity. The Board was now helpless in the matter.
