FIRE AT SEASIDE
An outbreak of fire occurred at the Manawatu Heads at about 2 o’clock this moi’ning, resulting in the total destruction of a residence known as the “Pioneer Camp,” belonging to Mr Vile, of Palmerston North.
The cause of the outbreak is a mystery. Flames were first noticed issueing from the building at about 2 a.m. by Mr. Shortt, who lives just across the road. It was then impossible to do anything to save the building, but a bucket brigade was formed aud did good work in saving the house adjoining, belonging to Mr. Perrin, also of Palmerston North. The paint on this building was badly scorched and several windows broken with the heat. The “pioneer Camp” was a sixroomed dwelling. A building with a similar name which was really the first building erected on that portion of the beach was destroyed by fire six Or seven years ago. It is believed the building was insured. The house was occupied on Thursday night but the occupants left on Friday morning.
