LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT.

Hamilton, March 1. A car driven by W. Ellington, contractor, was struck by a special race train at the military camp level crossing at Hopuhopu this morning. The car was smashed beyond repair, and thrown over a fence. Fortunately the only injurious Mr. Ellington received were cuts about the head, abrasions, and shock. STEPPED IN FRONT OF TRAIN. Whangarei, March 1. As the express train-was drawing into Opua station on Saturday night, a single man named Bert Dickinson, a resident of Opua, stepped in front of the engine aud»was instantly killed. At the iiiquest this morning a verdict of accidental death was returned.
