MOTOR LORRIES IN TROUBLE

FOXTON-LEVIN ROAD BLOCKED.

As a result of a motor lorry being held up on the Levin-Foxton road on Tuesday afternoon the road was blocked for some hours. A motor lorry proceeding towards Fox ton frm Levin at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday experienced engine trouble when nearing the Whirokino Bridge and as a result of the engine stalling, was left with its heavy load practically in the centre of the road. Shortly after another lorry came on the scene, also heavily laden and in endeavouring to pass the stranded lorry got one wheel a little too far off the road and as a result it i sunk into the soft soil and completed the blockage of the road for a number of hours. After considerable tinkering and manoeuvring the first lorry was moved on to the side of the road, but even then the space left was very narrow and two other lorries which arrived after dark were afaid to attempt the passage and waited for daylight. Assistance was given at 0 a.m., the following morning when Mr. McMurray hauled the second lorry out with the one of Mr. 11. Osborne’s lorries . after a couple of hours of strenuous work. The road then being sufficiently clear the other two buries proceeded on their way.
