AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE.
QUESTION OF SITE.
The question of the site for the Agricultural College has been exercising the minds of the rural population in both islands ever since the board set up for the purpose recommended that “one fully-equip--ped and fully-staffed residential college of agriculture will be sufficient for many years to come, and that such an institution should not be established until a sufficient number of degree stdents are available . . . when the establishment should be placed in a central position.”
Pending Cabinet decision on the matter —and it is expected that an announcement will shortly be made, —Kangitikei lias put in a strong bid for the institution while the possibilities of having it erected at Wallaceville or Penrose are still under consideration. The University-Sen-ate have complicated matters by granting Chairs of Agriculture to Wellington and Auckland, and recognising Lincoln College. These three institutions, however, each want land. It is thought quite likely that in order to comply with the spirit of the board’s recommendation in regard to the. “central position” aspect of the matter, Wallaceville will yet have the honour, possessing as it does every requirement including what is vitally necessary the practical experiment, land. — Dominion.
