BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night when the Mayor, Mr M. E. Perreau, occupied the chair.. Other members present were Crs. W. A. Adams, E. Parkin, C. Rand, T. Winstanley, S. E. Cowley, F. Wpods and R. MeMurray. An apology for absence was received from Cr. Walker. CORRESPONDENCE.
The Fire Board wrote regarding the connecting up of the superintendent’s residence, per medium of the phone and offered to pay half the cost. —The offer was accepted. It was also decided to confirm the arrangement made for the Fire Board to pay half the cost and a phone to be installed in the Town Hall. It was pointed out that the manager of (he hall was also foreman of the Fire Brigde and tho ’phone would also be useful for the borough staff in the usual course of business.
In reply to a circular letter from the Palmerston North Hospital Board in regard to the proposed building operations it was decided to advise the Board to make the term of the loan 2(1 years instead of 10 years and that the building scheme proposed be modified and spread over the term of the loan. £SOOO LOAN AT (5 PER CENT. A motion was carried that a poll for raising a loan of £5,000 for the tarring of streets and footpaths of the Borough be taken as soon as convenient and that failing other arrangements the sum he raised locally. The term to be a period of ten years with interest at the rate of li per cent.
Considerable discussion arose over the position in which the silent policeman had been placed, several councillors contending that the present position was dangerous to the public. It was decided to take no action meantime
GENERAL. A vote of appreciation was passed Miss B. Ritchie for a donation of boohs to the library. A vte of apreeiation was passed to the Fire Board for its invitation to the members of the Council to attend its annual social. The Town Clerk was authorised to procure a clock for the Town Hall.
When discussing water and drainage matters, Cr. Adams brought up the matter of laying a sewer from Johnston street behind the houses facing Purcell street. This matter, also the laying of a sewer in Whyte street would have due consideration after the present scheme is completed. Before rising the Mayor wished the Councillors the season’s compliments. The councillors reciprocated the good wishes.
