MOTOR CYCLE TRIALS.
On Sunday the Manawatu Motor Club held a motor bike reliability trial. There was a large field of enthusiastic competitors and a start was made at 9.45 a.m. The route, which was kept a secret up to the hour of the start, was as follows: Palmerston North to Rangitikei Beach, thence along the beach to Foxton, Foxton Beach to Shannon, Shannon to Gorge road corner. Gorge road corner to Ballanee, Ballance to Palmerston North. The total distance was 118 miles. The awards in the event were made on the basis of the least number of marks lost for variation of time at controls and various penalties, while bonuses were given for time gained along the beach from Tangimoana to Foxton. The results were: —
J. Dawber’s trophy.—H. Eggleton (23 h.p.) lost 47 marks, less bonus 7—nett 40 —Ist.
Adams, Ltd., trophy.—C. Christiansen (4 h.p) lost 75 marks —2nd. S. Well’s trophy.—C. E. Pearson (23 h.p.) lost 114 marks, less bonus 131—net 1001—3rd. General Motor Exchange trophy. —D. Smith (5 h.p.) lost 117 marks, less bonus 64—nett 1104 —4th. Also started: R. Hallett 1134, 5; R. Radford 124, 6; W. Patterson 125, 7; A. Millington 139, 8; A. A. Wood 190, 9; Wl. Reliefer 210, 10; J. Bower 230, 11; E. Jenners 266 12.
One competitor was disqualified for missing the first secret control and another failed to qualify owing to tyre trouble. The secret controls were: Carnarvon corner (Mr. C. Page), Kahulerawa corner. (Mr S. Callichan), Aoknutere (Mr. D. Eustace). The Club intends to conduct early in the New Year a motor car trial. This will be something novel in the district, and, it is anticipated, will attract a deal of interest.
