MAORI CHILD DIES OF INJURIES.

RECEIVED THROUGH FALLING OFF CHAIR.

, The 51 months’ old child of Jacob Utiku Hapeta, of Poroutawhao, near Levin, died in the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday as a result of injuries to the brain received from falling off a chair.

The baby was in the care of its aunt, Amokura Arcus, of Hilary St. Foxton. In answering a knock at the door, she placed the child the child in an arm chair, but the infant fell out on t» its head. It was crying when the aunt picked it up, but later became unconscious. A doctor was then sent for and the baby was removed to the Hospital, where it died in the evening. At an inquest held before Mr. A. J. Graham, coroner, a verdict of death through laceration of the brain was returned.
