BEACH NOTES

(Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Foxton Presbyterian Ladies’ Social guild was held at the residence of Mrs Larsen, Foxton Beach, on Wednesday afternoon. There was a very large attendance of ladies present. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Wisliart and Mrs Newton.

Mrs McDonald presided over the meeting which dealt with matters of interest concerning the balancesheet, and church furnishing. A collection taken up during the afternoon amounted to £2 11s Od, which will go to the Church fund Account.

After the business of the meeting was finished a very amusing competition was held which resulted in Mrs Thomson, carrying off the first prize. Mrs Hart secured the consolation prize. At the conclusion of the social Mrs McDonald thanked Mrs Larsen for the very enjoyable afternoon, and for the tea which she so kindly provided. A very cordial invitation was given to all present to meet at the next guild social, which will take place at the residence of Mrs Barron on December 2nd.

A meeting was held last Tuesday evening in the Hall of all those interested in tennis. Mr ■ Hartley acted as chairman for the meeting, which was a very representative one for the Beach. Only a limited amount of business could be dealt with, such as naming the club, and the appointing of officers for the ensuing year. It was proposed by Mrs Turoa v and seconded by Miss Clover, that the Club should be called “The Tewharangi Tennis Club.” The discussion of the meeting resolved itself into a proposition put forward by Mr Larsen, that the people of the Beach approach the Beach Committee for the purpose of acquiring a site for the tennis club. Miss Clover was appointed treasurer and Miss Young secretary.

The secretary will be pleased to furnish further particulars re the proposed club. The treasurer reports having received donations.
