SOCKBURN TO DUNEDIN IN 135 MINUTES.
FLYING FEAT BY NEW ZEALAND AVIATORS.
Dunedin, Last Night.
Captain L. M. Isitt and Sergeant Smith w'ei'e at Sockburn aerodrome Christchurch, at 9.30 this morning. Just 135 mniutes later, the trim Havill aeroplane D. 11.9 landed them on the Dunedin foreshore. Granted that favourable weather -conditions made a contribution to the remarkable success of the trip, the achievement represents another step in the development of New Zealand aviation. It is not the first trip an aeroplane has made to Dunedin, but the pilot’s observations will be of great value in investigations which have as their object the study of the possibilities of a regular air service between the two cities. The progress made elsewhere in the development of mail services, justifies even the most sanguine hopes. Captain Isitt is visiting Dunedin to make photographs of the Exhibition. His work, the results of which will doubtless attract keen interest, will be completed by Friday, and he will fly back to Christchurch.
