FORGERY AND THEFT.
POSTAL OFFICER’S ADMISSION. Christchurch, October 14. Attributing his crimes to over indulgence in gambling and racing, a postal official, James Laurenson, a single man, pleaded gnilty to three counts of having stolen a total of £205, the property of the Postmas-ter-General, and to two further charges of having forged the names of James and Kathleen Dowling to a post office savings bank withdrawal receipt for £165, and with having acted upon it as if it were genuine. Accused appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. In the course of his evidence, Detective Bickerdike said that Laurenson had been very open and candid over the whole matter, and he had assisted the police in every way. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being refused.
