FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING,
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held in the Council Chambers last night, presided over by His Worship the Mayor (M. E. Perreau Esq.). Also present were Crs. R. McMurray, F. Woods, E. S. Cowley, T. W. Winstanley, C. Rand, E. Parkin, M. H. Wklker, W. Adams. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From the Christchurch Borough Council, asking co-operation in placing the following views before the Government in connection with the control of cinematograph machines and the storage of films: (1) That the Government be informed that the Council could administer the Regulations without the employment of any additional inspectors; (2) That a protest be made against the continual filching of Local Bodies’ power by regulations.—Received. From same re the pronouncement of the Prime Minister relative to the constitution of a board to which all applications for loans by Local Bodies will be referred before the proposal is submitted to the ratepayers, asking the Council to support the following protest: That the Christchurch City Council views with apprehension any suggestion by the Government to interfere with or restrict the rights of the ratepayers of any local body in raising money for local piuqjoses, the opinion of the Council being that local requirements are best known to local bodies and the final pronouncement in the matter should be made by the persons responsible for the charges upon monies. That Ibis Council favours the establishment of a Board for the purpose of funding local bodies’ loan requirements with a view to the stabilisation and equalisation of interest rates and charges upon loans. — Held over

Reports were read and dealt with as follows:—
WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT.
The borough water works foreman reported as follows: —During the month I have carried out the following works: Extending two water services, attending to all maintenance work, meter reading and repairing meters where necessary. By-laws have also been attended to. Pumping Station Report : —During the month 650,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 31.5 amperes.—Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT.
The road foreman reported as follows:—
During the month the road stall has been engaged in the following works: —-Carting and spreading metal, Moutoa and Sandon roads, Union and Victoria Sts, widening cutting, Russell St. and planting same with ice plant; cleaning Coley St. and Avenue Rd. drains; weeding water channels Johnston St. and Avenue Rd.; weeding and cleaning footpaths Harbour St., discharging half metal and chips to yard and general maintenance work. A start has been made with the top dressing of Main St. with tar and chips, but the weather has been somewhat unfavourable. However, as we have so much of this work before us, it will be advisable to push on with it whenever possible. The County road grader will be available for use on the borough road next week.— Adopted. GENERAL. The matter of leasing the section at the corner of Johnston and Purcell Sts. was left in the hands of the Clerk, Mr. Searle’s offer being refused. Matters in collection with the water and drainage by-laws were brought up by Cr. Adams and after discussion were referred to the Health Officer.
