ROYAL PICTURES.

The entangling differences which so oflen occur between relations is the theme of Universal’s latest special'production, “The Slanderers,” an adaptation of • Velma Clark’s McCall’s magazine story published as “Judgment of West Paradise,” which has its first local showing next Wednesday at the Royal Theatre. Johnnie Walker has the role of a self-sacrificing elder brother who suddenly awakens to the fact that he must stand trial for murder if he would protect ljis younger brother who enlists at the first call for volunteers. From then on the. story takes a number of novel twists. Tragedy overtakes him in the form of slanderous tongued neighbours who try to make life miserable for him after a jury frees him. The same tongues talk themselves to a frenzy and then attempt a despicable act- against his foster sister, until they are beaten back. Century comedy: “Clear the Wav.”

RICHARD DIX AT CABARET. Richard Dix’s latest starving picture “Too Many Kisses” will grace the screen at the Town Hall Cabaret to-morrow evening. The story it laid in the Basque country in the Pyrenees between France and Spain and deals with a young American, sent abroad by his father to make him pay more attention to his mining business and less to fair ladies. There’s not a doubt but “Too Many Kisses” offers Dix his finest screen role to date. A double reel comedy “The Lunatic,” “An Australian Winter Playground” and Paramount News complete the programme. Usual cabaret prices. Lew Cody, Elinor Fair and Irving Cummings head the east in “A Dangerous Pastime” next Saturday’s feature attraction. This drama is crammed with whirlwind action, brilliant sets and fine scenery. A. great animal comedy “Roaring Lions At Home,” is also included in Saturday’s programme which is to be screened at usual prices.
