RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
TRAIN RUNS UNTO HORSES. Auckland, October 3. The Taupo Totara Timber Company’s train when rounding a curve ran into a mob of horses. Three empty wagons were derailed and completely smashed. The breaking of a coupling probably saved the loss of life. When the train stopped the engine was across the Kopokarahi bridge but the passenger van was overhanging a drop of forty feet to the watercourse below. The side of the van had to be broken to extricate passengers, who included seven women. All are suffering from shock, but there was no more serious injury.
